Historical Information
The USS Enterprise (CV-6) was a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier commissioned on May 12, 1938. Nicknamed “The Big E,” she became the most decorated U.S. Navy ship of World War II.
Enterprise participated in nearly every major phase of the Pacific carrier war, including Midway, the Eastern Solomons, Santa Cruz Islands, Guadalcanal, the Philippine Sea, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. She survived repeated battle damage and earned a Presidential Unit Citation and Navy Unit Commendation.
