Historical Information
Future USS Doris Miller (CVN-81) is the fourth Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. The ship honors Navy Cross recipient Doris 'Dorie' Miller, whose actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor became one of the best-known examples of individual heroism in U.S. naval history. First steel was cut for CVN-81 in August 2021, and construction has proceeded as part of the Navy’s two-ship CVN-80/CVN-81 acquisition strategy.
