Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Corregidor (CVE-58) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 31 August 1943.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Supported the Marshall Islands campaign at Kwajalein, then operations at Emirau, Hollandia, Saipan, and Guam as U.S. forces advanced across the Central and Southwest Pacific.
Combat Service: Her air groups provided close air support, combat air patrol, and antisubmarine protection for amphibious forces during the 1944 island campaigns.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in July 1946, recommissioned in 1951 as an aircraft transport, served until 1958, and was sold for scrap in 1959.
