Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Cape Esperance (CVE-88) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 9 April 1944.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Operated as an aircraft ferry and replenishment carrier, supplying Task Force 38 during strikes on Leyte, Luzon, Formosa, and the China coast and delivering replacement aircraft used in the Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Japanese home-island campaigns.
Combat Service: Her contribution was primarily aviation logistics: keeping front-line carrier air groups supplied with combat-ready aircraft, pilots, parts, and stores during sustained offensive operations.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in August 1946, recommissioned in 1950 as an aircraft transport, decommissioned again in 1959, and sold for scrap that year.
The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
