USS Cabot (CVL-28) MS Blue — 1-2400 Scale Deck Decal
Historically accurate 1-2400 scale light aircraft carrier deck decal representing USS Cabot (CVL-28) in the MS Blue configuration.
Historical Information
The USS Cabot (CVL-28) was an Independence-class light aircraft carrier operated by the United States Navy. She was one of nine carriers in her class, converted from Cleveland-class light-cruiser hulls, and was commissioned on July 24, 1943.
Designed to combine cruiser speed with a compact carrier flight deck, the Independence class provided fast-carrier task forces with additional fighter protection and strike capacity throughout the Pacific War.
Aircraft Complement: Typically about 33 aircraft in late-war service, commonly organized around approximately 24 Grumman F6F Hellcat fighters and 9 Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger torpedo bombers. The exact complement varied by date, mission, and assigned air group.
Wartime Service: Cabot fought in operations spanning the Marshall Islands, the Marianas, the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and strikes against Japan. Despite damage from kamikaze attacks in November 1944, she returned to action.
Fate: Cabot later served Spain as Dédalo from 1967 to 1989. After preservation efforts failed, the ship was scrapped beginning in 2000.
