Historical Information

Commissioning: USS Bougainville (CVE-100) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 18 June 1944.

Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Provided aviation logistics support to Task Forces 58 and 38 during the Iwo Jima invasion, strikes on Japan's defenses and home islands, and the first six weeks of the Okinawa campaign.

Combat Service: Rather than operating as a close-support carrier, she repeatedly ferried replacement aircraft, pilots, aviation fuel, parts, and stores to the fast carriers, then supported occupation movements to Okinawa and China.

Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in November 1946, remained in reserve, and was sold for scrap in 1960.

The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
