Historical Information
USS Bairoko (CVE-115) was built by Todd-Pacific Shipyards at Tacoma, Washington, and commissioned on 16 July 1945. She was still in shakedown and training when World War II ended, but later became an active postwar carrier, supporting Operation Sandstone nuclear tests and then Korean War operations. During Korea, Marine Corsairs from Bairoko flew combat air patrol, close-support, reconnaissance, and strike missions against Communist positions and transportation targets along the west coast of Korea. She later supported Operation Castle nuclear tests. Bairoko was decommissioned on 18 February 1955, reclassified AKV-15, struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1960, and sold for scrapping that year.
