Historical Information
USS Badoeng Strait (CVE-116) was built by Todd-Pacific Shipyards at Tacoma, Washington, completed at Portland, Oregon, and commissioned on 14 November 1945, after World War II had ended. Her major combat service came during the Korean War, when Marine Corsairs operating from her deck supported the Pusan perimeter, the Inchon landings, the advance on Seoul, operations around Wonsan and the Chosin Reservoir, and the evacuation of Hungnam. She earned six battle stars for Korean War service and later supported Operation Redwing nuclear tests and the development of helicopter assault tactics. Badoeng Strait was decommissioned on 17 May 1957, reclassified AKV-16, struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1970, and sold for scrap in 1972.
