Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Attu (CVE-102) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 30 June 1944.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Served as an aircraft and pilot replenishment carrier for the fast-carrier task forces during the final Pacific offensive and later supported occupation and Magic Carpet operations.
Combat Service: Her aviation logistics missions supplied replacement aircraft and aircrews that sustained carrier strikes against Japan and other late-war objectives; she earned two battle stars for World War II service.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in June 1946, struck from the Navy list shortly afterward, and sold for scrap in January 1947.
