Historical Information
Flight I introduced the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to the fleet with USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) in 1991. Built around the Aegis Weapon System and Mk 41 Vertical Launching System, these ships combined fleet air defense with anti-submarine, anti-surface, and long-range strike capability and established the basic design that has remained in production for decades.
