Historical Information
The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is the fifth ship of the Nimitz class. Built by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, she was commissioned on November 11, 1989 and named for the 16th President of the United States.
Abraham Lincoln supported the evacuation of military personnel and civilians from the Philippines during Operation Fiery Vigil in 1991 and later participated in Operation Southern Watch, Operation Restore Hope, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. She also provided relief after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami during Operation Unified Assistance and later deployed with the F-35C Lightning II as part of her modern carrier air wing.
