Historical Information
HMS Eagle (94) was converted from the incomplete Chilean battleship Almirante Cochrane and commissioned as a Royal Navy aircraft carrier in 1924. During World War II she operated extensively in the Mediterranean, escorting convoys and flying aircraft reinforcements to Malta; on 11 August 1942, while covering Operation Pedestal, she was struck by four torpedoes from U-73 and sank within minutes.
