Historical Information

HMS Ark Royal (91) was built by Cammell Laird and commissioned in 1938 as one of the Royal Navy’s most modern prewar fleet carriers. She fought off Norway, supported operations in the Mediterranean and against the French fleet at Mers-el-Kébir, played a decisive role in locating and disabling Bismarck in May 1941, and repeatedly supported Malta; on 13 November 1941 she was torpedoed by U-81 and sank the following day near Gibraltar.
