Historical Information
The Type 072A is an evolution of earlier Chinese Type 072 landing ships and entered service in the early 2000s. Its full-length vehicle deck, bow doors, stern ramp, and helicopter deck allow it to move armored vehicles, troops, cargo, and landing craft in support of amphibious operations. Fifteen ships were built for the PLAN in two principal batches; later ships can be distinguished by changes to their gun armament and other details.
