The Sukhoi Su-7BKL, a variant optimized for rough-field operations with specialized landing gear, was primarily used by the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact nations, notably including Poland, Czechoslovakia, and for, and in Afghanistan. It served as a ground-attack aircraft, with deployment continuing into the 1980s before replacement by the Su-17.
Key users and operations of the Su-7BKL (and related Fitter-A variants) included:
- Soviet Union: Operated by the Soviet Air Forces up until the mid-1980s, particularly in fighter-bomber regiments.
- Poland: Utilized for air force operations, as evidenced by photographic records of Su-7BKL units.
- Afghanistan: Used by the Afghan air force, and notably still in combat operations in Afghanistan by Soviet units until 1989.
- Czechoslovakia: Operated within the Warsaw Pact, with examples later displayed in local museums.
