Historical Context
The Dassault Mirage IIIEA was the Argentine Air Force version of the Mirage IIIE, Dassault's Mach 2 delta-wing interceptor and strike fighter. The Mirage IIIE first flew on April 5, 1961. Argentina selected the type to modernize its air-defense force, receiving its first Mirage III aircraft in 1972.
The Mirage IIIEA became Argentina's premier high-performance interceptor and served through the Beagle crisis and the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas War.

Development and Origin: The Mirage III grew from Dassault's delta-wing interceptor program and became the first Western European fighter family to achieve Mach 2. The IIIE incorporated a lengthened fuselage, improved navigation/attack electronics, and the more powerful Atar 9C engine for expanded multirole capability.
Military and Combat Operations:
Argentine Air Force: Mirage IIIEAs were assigned primarily to air-defense and interception missions and were deployed south during the 1978 Beagle crisis.
Falklands/Malvinas War – 1982: The aircraft operated from mainland bases in air-defense, escort, diversion, and interception roles. Mirage IIIEAs engaged British Sea Harriers on May 1, 1982, but their operations were constrained by the long distance to the islands and lack of air-to-air refueling capability.
Foreign Operators: The IIIEA designation was specific to Argentina, while related Mirage III variants served with numerous air forces around the world.
Upgrades and Retirement: Argentina continued operating the Mirage IIIEA alongside Dagger/Finger and Mirage 5-family aircraft for decades. The remaining Mirage-family fighters were finally retired from Argentine service in 2015.
Design and Armament: A single-seat delta-wing fighter powered by the SNECMA Atar 9C, the IIIEA combined high-altitude interception with secondary strike capability.
