Historical Information
The Reichskriegsflagge introduced in 1935 served as the principal war ensign of the Kriegsmarine throughout World War II. German warships displayed the ensign from the stern flagstaff or mast depending on whether the ship was in harbor or underway, while the national flag was also used as the naval jack.
 
Flag size varied with the size and type of vessel, and naval flags formed a highly visible part of a Kriegsmarine ship’s appearance in port, during ceremonies, and at sea. These markings are therefore useful details for accurately finishing German naval miniatures from the 1935–1945 period. They can also be used on ship bases.
