Junkers Ju-87a

From $2.68Price

The Junkers Ju-87A ("Anton"), the initial production variant of the Stuka dive bomber, was primarily used for evaluation and combat testing by the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War (starting around 1937) to refine dive-bombing tactics. It saw limited operational use during the early, rapid stages of World War II before being replaced by the Ju-87B.

Key Operational Details:

  • Spanish Civil War: Used by the Legion Condor to test precision bombing techniques.
  • Early World War II: Employed in small numbers during the invasion of Poland and early campaigns on the Western Front before the more capable Ju-87B became standard.
  • Design Limitations: The "A" model was limited by a smaller engine, lower payload, and shorter range compared to later versions, primarily acting as a testbed for the Blitzkrieg dive-bombing doctrine.
