Historical Information
These Japanese Imperial Army Flag decals reproduce the distinctive Rising Sun war flag associated with the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA). The design features a central red sun with 16 red rays extending across a white field, making it easily distinguishable from the Imperial Japanese Navy ensign, which placed the sun noticeably off-center toward the hoist.
The Imperial Japanese Army officially adopted its Rising Sun war flag in 1870, and it remained in use through the end of World War II in 1945. The flag served principally as a military and regimental symbol and became closely associated with Japanese Army forces during campaigns throughout China, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.
The Army version should not be confused with the Imperial Japanese Navy Rising Sun ensign. Both used 16 rays, but the Army design featured a centered sun, while the Navy version placed the sun toward the hoist.
