The HAL Ajeet was used exclusively by the Indian Air Force (IAF). It was an upgraded Indian-built development of the British-designed Folland Gnat and entered service in 1977. The aircraft remained in operational service until 1991.
Operator
Indian Air Force — the only military operator of the HAL Ajeet.
Squadrons
The Ajeet saw limited service and equipped only a small number of IAF units. The principal operator was:
No. 2 Squadron — the only squadron specifically identified as operating the type throughout its service life.
The aircraft served with:
No. 18 Squadron, which transitioned from the Folland Gnat to the Ajeet before later converting to the MiG-27.
Service and Combat Use
The HAL Ajeet was designed as a light fighter and ground-attack aircraft, but unlike its Gnat predecessor, it was never used in combat operations. Its service career was relatively short and uneventful, ending with retirement in 1991.
