1-144 Print on Demand
Please note: 1-200 & 1-144 scale prints will receive 3 fuel probes. We do not ship probes for 1-300 or 1-285 scale prints. They are just too small, thin, and break easily. I use a brush bristle for my models as they are much more flexible. for 1-200 scale I use a "cut to length" piece of jewelry brass/copper 26 gauge wire from the craft store.
Historical Context
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, known in Israeli service as the Ayit (“Eagle”), became one of the Israeli Air Force's most heavily used light attack aircraft. Israel began receiving Skyhawks in 1967, including A-4H and later A-4N variants.
The Ayit's small size, rugged construction and useful weapons load made it highly effective for close air support and battlefield strike missions.
Key Aspects of the A-4 Ayit History:
Development and Origin: The Skyhawk was designed by Douglas as a lightweight carrier attack aircraft and adapted by Israel with local avionics and weapons changes.
Military and Combat Operations:
War of Attrition: Israeli Skyhawks flew intensive strike missions against Egyptian positions.
Yom Kippur War – 1973: Ayit units conducted large numbers of battlefield-support and interdiction missions and suffered significant losses to dense air defenses.
Lebanon: The Skyhawk remained in combat use in later Israeli operations before transitioning mainly to training duties.
Foreign Operators: The wider A-4 family served with many air forces and navies, while Israel operated locally configured A-4H/A-4N versions under the Ayit name.
Upgrades and Retirement: Israeli Skyhawks received repeated avionics and survivability upgrades and later served as advanced trainers. The type was finally retired from Israeli service in 2015.
Design and Armament: Single-seat light attack aircraft with two 20 mm cannon and multiple hardpoints for bombs, rockets, missiles and external fuel tanks.
