Major Areas of Service

Vietnam War (1968–1975)

  • Rescued downed American and allied aircrew deep inside hostile territory.
  • Frequently operated under enemy fire and in heavily defended areas.

Cambodia

  • Flew rescue and special operations missions supporting U.S. and allied forces during the later years of the Vietnam conflict.

Thailand

  • Based at facilities such as Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base and other Thai air bases.
  • From these locations, HH-53Cs launched rescue missions throughout Southeast Asia.

Notable Operations

  • Operation Eagle Pull (1975) – Evacuation of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
