Historical Background
The Hannover CL.IIIa was a German two-seat combat aircraft used for escort, ground attack, and battlefield support.
Part of Germany's lightweight CL-class aircraft, it combined useful maneuverability with a rear gunner for defensive protection. Its most recognizable feature was its unusual biplane horizontal tail, which helped provide the observer with a broad field of fire.
