First operational Tejas squadron.
Formed with the Tejas in July 2016.
Based at Sulur Air Force Station.

Performs air defense and ground-attack missions.
Areas of Operation
The Tejas Mk1 is deployed in two strategically important regions:
Southern India from Sulur, covering the Indian Ocean region and southern air-defense responsibilities.
Western India from Naliya, near the border with Pakistan, providing rapid-response air-defense and strike capabilities.
Combat Use
Unlike the HF-24 Marut, the Tejas Mk1 has not yet been used in a declared combat operation or war, although it regularly participates in operational deployments, air-defense alerts, exercises, and weapons trials.
