Historical Context
The Grumman EA-6A Prowler was a specialized electronic warfare aircraft used primarily by the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, operating from land bases to jam enemy radar. As a bridge between the A-6 Intruder and EA-6B, it served in specialized USMC and Navy reserve units (VMCJ/VAQ) for training and front-line duties until its retirement in the early 1990s. 
Key details regarding the EA-6A include:
Role: Used as an ECM (Electronic Countermeasure) platform to disrupt North Vietnamese radar systems.
Deployment: Operated in the Vietnam theater by the Marine Corps.
Production: Only 28 were built or converted from A-6A airframes.
Service Life: Phased out of frontline service by the mid-1970s and fully retired by 1993. 
The EA-6A is often confused with its more famous successor, the EA-6B Prowler, which had a lengthened fuselage, four seats, and served in nearly all U.S. combat operations from 1972 to 2019.
