Historical Information

Foch was the second of two Clemenceau-class aircraft carriers built for the French Navy and entered service in 1963. Together with Clemenceau, she provided France with a conventional CATOBAR carrier capability through the Cold War and into the 1990s, operating a succession of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Foch was decommissioned from French service in 2000 and transferred to Brazil, where she served as São Paulo.
