Historical Information

Clemenceau was the lead ship of France's first postwar class of purpose-built aircraft carriers and entered service in 1961. For more than three decades she formed a central part of French naval aviation, operating conventional fixed-wing aircraft from an angled flight deck with steam catapults. Clemenceau served through numerous deployments and crises before being decommissioned in 1997.
