The FJ-4B Fury was a specialized fighter-bomber used primarily by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps from 1956 through the early 1960s. It was designed for ground attack, nuclear strike roles, and air defense, operating from aircraft carriers in the Pacific and at Naval Air Reserve stations.

Key Operational Areas and Units:

  • Carrier Operations: Deployed on aircraft carriers, including the USS Ranger (CVA-61) and USS Lexington (CVA-16) in the Pacific.
  • Marine Corps: Operated by three Marine squadrons, including VMF-451 and VMF-232, for attack roles.
  • Navy Squadrons: Served in nine Navy squadrons, including VA-146 "Blue Diamonds" and VA-216 "Black Diamonds".
  • Pacific Presence: Deployed aboard aircraft carriers to the Pacific region and to locations such as Japan, Hawaii, and California stations.
  • Weapon Deployment: Was the first to deploy the Bullpup guided air-to-surface missile.

The aircraft was often used for low-level attack missions, including nuclear delivery training, and served in combat in the Pacific as part of carrier air groups.
