The F2H-2 Banshee was a primary U.S. Navy and Marine Corps jet fighter used extensively during the Korean War (1950–1953) for ground attack, escort, and reconnaissance, operating off carriers. Known for its high-altitude performance, it operated in Korea, over Soviet territory for reconnaissance, and later with the Royal Canadian Navy.
- Korean War Missions: The F2H-2 was vital in Korea (1950-53) for ground-attack, close air support, and disrupting North Korean supply lines.
- Carrier Operation: It served on Navy aircraft carriers and with Marine Corps squadrons.
- Reconnaissance (F2H-2P): The photo-reconnaissance variant was used to take high-quality photos of communist military installations.
- Strategic Escort: Due to its superior high-altitude performance, it was used to escort U.S. Air Force bombers.
- Global Operations: The aircraft operated from Taiwan for surveillance missions and was later used by the Royal Canadian Navy.
- Long-Range Operations: In exercises, F2H-2s demonstrated long-range capability, operating hundreds of miles from carriers.
