F-18F DU Super Hornet
The F/A-18F Super Hornet ("Rhino") is a carrier-based strike fighter used extensively by the U.S. Navy since 1999 and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) since 2010. It was used in combat operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria against ISIS, and for patrols in the North Sea. The two-seat F-variant replaced the F-14 Tomcat and serves alongside the F/A-18E.
Operational Deployment and Key Regions
United States Navy: Active in the Middle East, including Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Iraqi Freedom, and Inherent Resolve (Syria).
Royal Australian Air Force: Deployed from 2010 to replace the F-111C, with extensive combat sorties against ISIS from 2014-2017.
Kuwait Air Force: Operates the type with further units on order.
Notable Locations/Operations: Operations over Bosnia and Kosovo (for earlier Hornet models, with Super Hornets taking over later roles), patrol flights over the North Sea, and in 2021, overwatch missions during the Kabul evacuation.
Carrier Operations: Operates from U.S. Navy Nimitz-class and Gerald R. Ford-class carriers.
