The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, an upgraded, larger, and distinct aircraft from the "legacy" F/A-18C Hornet, has been used primarily by the U.S. Navy since 1999 as its primary strike fighter, replacing the F-14 Tomcat. It was used in major operations, including Iraq (2003), Afghanistan, and against ISIS in Syria and Iraq (Operation Inherent Resolve).
