The EF-111A Raven electronic warfare aircraft was primarily used by the U.S. Air Force to provide electronic jamming support during major combat operations, including Operation El Dorado Canyon (Libya, 1986), Operation Just Cause (Panama, 1989), and Operation Desert Storm (Iraq, 1991). It also supported operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Key Deployment and Usage Details:
- Operational History: The EF-111A served from 1977 until its retirement in June 1998, primarily based at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, and Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico.
- Combat Roles: Specifically designed for electronic countermeasures, it used a sophisticated jammer to protect friendly aircraft from enemy radar and air defenses.
- Units: Operated by the 390th Electronic Combat Squadron and later the 429th Electronic Combat Squadron.
- Regional Support: In addition to the major conflicts, the Raven supported regional air defense missions and participated in NATO exercises while stationed in Europe (RAF Upper Heyford).
