The Convair F-106 Delta Dart was exclusively used by the United States Air Force (USAF) and Air National Guard (ANG) from June 1959 until 1988 as the primary all-weather interceptor for continental defense. It was stationed at various US bases, Alaska, Iceland, and briefly South Korea, primarily for Cold War alert missions, with some later converted into QF-106 target drones, says The Armory Life.

- Primary Duty: Served as the "Ultimate Interceptor" against Soviet nuclear bombers during the 1960s-1980s.
- Key Locations: Stationed at bases including Otis ANGB (MA), Hamilton AFB (CA), Castle AFB (CA), Griffiss AFB (NY), Malmstrom AFB (MT), and Langley AFB (VA).
- Operational History: The last active-duty unit was the 49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, while the 119th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (New Jersey ANG) was the final operator in 1988.
- Usage Limitations: The F-106 was not exported to other countries and was not used in combat, including in Vietnam.
- Other Roles: Used by NASA for research from the 1960s-1990s and later converted to QF-106 drones to be used as flying targets.
