The F-105D Thunderchief was primarily used as the main strike fighter-bomber by the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, particularly during Operation Rolling Thunder (1965–1968). Based in Thailand at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base and Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, these aircraft flew over 20,000 sorties against North Vietnam and Laos. 
Key Deployment and Usage Areas:
Southeast Asia (Vietnam War): The F-105D bore the brunt of conventional bombing missions over North Vietnam early in the war. It was used heavily for strike missions,, and specialized "Wild Weasel" variants (F-105F/G) were used to suppress enemy air defenses.
Thailand Bases: The 355th Tactical Fighter Wing at Takhli RTAFB and the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Korat RTAFB were the primary units operating the F-105D in combat.
Japan: F-105Ds were stationed at Itazuke Air Base and Yokota Air Base in the early 1960s before transitioning to the combat theater.
United States: The aircraft served with active-duty units (e.g., 23rd TFW) and later the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve until its retirement in the early 1980s. 
The aircraft was nicknamed the "Thud" by its crews and was often tasked with carrying heavy conventional bomb loads despite being designed for nuclear strike roles.
