F-104S Starfighter NATO variant

The Lockheed F-104S Starfighter was exclusively used by the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) and the Turkish Air Force. It served as an interceptor and strike fighter from the late 1960s until it was retired from frontline service.

Italy: Manufactured under license in Italy by Aeritalia (formerly FIAT), the F-104S served as the mainstay of the Italian Air Force. It was utilized extensively for intercepts and ground-attack roles. Later upgraded to the ASA and ASA/M standards, these jets remained in active Italian service until October 2004.
Turkey: The Turkish Air Force acquired 40 F-104S interceptors directly from Italy in the mid-1970s. These aircraft were used in air superiority and close-air-support (CAS) operations, remaining a vital part of Turkey's fleet until the mid-1990s.
