Historical Context
The Dassault Super Mystère B2 was France's first production fighter capable of sustained supersonic flight in level flight. The B2 prototype first flew on May 15, 1956, and production aircraft entered French service in the late 1950s.
Developed from the Mystère family, the SMB2 combined a swept wing, afterburning Atar engine, and transonic/supersonic aerodynamic refinements.

Upgrades and Retirement: French SMB2 service ended in the 1970s, while foreign operators extended the aircraft's career through re-engining and local modifications.
