Historical Information
USS St. Lo (CVE-63), originally commissioned as Midway before being renamed, served as a Casablanca-class escort carrier in the Pacific. She was part of Taffy 3 during the Battle off Samar on 25 October 1944, where the escort-carrier force fought a much more powerful Japanese surface fleet. Later that morning St. Lo was struck by a kamikaze and sank.
