Historical Information
USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56) was a Casablanca-class escort carrier commissioned in August 1943. She joined the Pacific Fleet and supported the Gilbert Islands campaign, providing air cover during operations around Makin. On 24 November 1943 she was struck by a torpedo from Japanese submarine I-175; the resulting magazine explosion destroyed the ship.
