Historical Information
Kaga began construction as a Tosa-class battleship but was converted to an aircraft carrier after the Washington Naval Treaty. Her original three-flight-deck arrangement was replaced during a major 1933–1935 reconstruction with a full-length flight deck and enlarged air group. Kaga served in Carrier Division 1 and was one of the six carriers of the Pearl Harbor strike force. She continued with the First Air Fleet through the opening Pacific campaigns before being destroyed at Midway.
