Historical Context
The 358th Bombardment Squadron served with the 303rd Bombardment Group, the famous “Hell's Angels” group of the U.S. Eighth Air Force. The group deployed to RAF Molesworth in Huntingdonshire, England, and entered combat in November 1942 with olive-drab and neutral-gray B-17Fs.
These initial-deployment aircraft predated the standardized First Air Division triangle group markings introduced in 1943. Early 303rd Bomb Group B-17Fs carried yellow tail serial numbers and aircraft radio call letters, creating a noticeably different appearance from the later high-visibility schemes.
The 358th Squadron used the fuselage code VK. The squadron included the famous B-17F Hell's Angels, which became the first Eighth Air Force B-17 credited with completing 25 combat missions.
This sheet is intended to represent the early olive-drab deployment period, before the later Triangle C group marking and 1944 high-visibility tail system became standard.
