Historical Information

The Eagle Squadrons were RAF fighter units formed around American volunteer pilots before the United States entered World War II. No. 71 formed in September 1940, No. 121 in May 1941, and No. 133 in July 1941.

The units flew Hurricanes and later Spitfires. Their operations included defensive patrols, convoy protection, fighter sweeps, and bomber escort over Britain and occupied Europe.

On 29 September 1942, the three squadrons transferred to the U.S. Army Air Forces. They became the 334th, 335th, and 336th Fighter Squadrons of the 4th Fighter Group, carrying valuable RAF combat experience into the American force.

These markings represent their RAF identity. Match the chosen squadron to the appropriate Hurricane or Spitfire period, since its aircraft type and national marking scheme changed during the transition to American service.
