Historical Information
No. 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron was the first RAF squadron to operate the Avro Lancaster. It helped introduce the new four-engined bomber into front-line Bomber Command service.
 
No. 115 Squadron also became an important Lancaster operator after extensive Wellington service. Its earlier participation in Gee radio-navigation trials connects its history with the technical development of the night offensive.
