Historical Information

MARINA is a naval service title carried on aircraft and helicopters in more than one national aviation tradition. The word identifies a naval connection, while the accompanying roundel, flag, serial, and unit markings establish the particular operator.

Italian naval aircraft are a documented example of the use of MARINA lettering on fuselage sides. Such service lettering supplements the national insignia and can be visible even when an aircraft carries few other prominent unit markings.

Black and white lettering provide contrasting treatments for different paint finishes. The correct choice depends on the particular airframe and its finish rather than a universal rule that all naval aircraft use the same color.

This lettering sheet is intended to support an identified aircraft scheme. Check the wording, letter size, position, and surrounding markings against a photograph before choosing the black or white version.
