Historical Information

During the 2011 uprising, Libyan opposition forces revived the red, black and green national colors associated with the pre-1969 flag. Aircraft markings reflected this return to an earlier national identity and replaced the plain green insignia associated with the Jamahiriya period.

Aircraft-marking references distinguish early Free Libyan Air Force insignia from later post-2011 designs. The change was therefore more varied than a single uniform repainting of the entire fleet at one moment.

This sheet represents the post-2011 Libyan subject identified in the product artwork. It is intended for models of aircraft carrying that particular roundel, rather than earlier aircraft using the solid green 1977-2011 marking.

Later Libyan aviation involved differing forces, aircraft origins and repainting histories. Check a dated photograph for the roundel pattern, size and position on the aircraft being modelled; the 2011-Present catalogue label does not imply that every later Libyan aircraft carried an identical insignia.
