Historical Information

This decal set reproduces the modern Royal Thai Air Force national roundel based on the red, white and blue colors of the Thai flag. The concentric design returned after World War II and has remained the principal national aircraft marking of the RTAF into the modern era.

Thailand first adopted a flag-color concentric aircraft roundel in the early twentieth century. Wartime recognition requirements led to temporary alternative markings during 1940-1945, but after the war the traditional roundel was restored and became the enduring symbol of Royal Thai Air Force aircraft.

The marking has appeared on American, European and locally supported aircraft across the Cold War and modern periods. Placement and size vary between fighters, transports, helicopters and trainers.

Representative Aircraft: F-86 Sabre, F-5E/F, F-16A/B, JAS 39 Gripen, Alpha Jet, C-130 Hercules, AU-23 Peacemaker and RTAF helicopters/trainers.

The RTAF has used the same basic national colors for decades, but roundel dimensions and application vary by airframe. Period photographs remain the best guide for placement.
