The USS Hornet (CV-12) was an Essex-class fleet aircraft carrier operated by the United States Navy. She was one of 24 completed ships in the class from 32 ordered and was commissioned on November 29, 1943.
Hornet served in Pacific operations. Her major assignments included the Marshall Islands, the Marianas, the Philippine Sea, the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and strikes against Japan.
