Historical Information
USS Puget Sound (CVE-113) was built by Todd-Pacific Shipyards at Tacoma, Washington, and commissioned on 18 June 1945. She was still completing shakedown and training when Japan surrendered, so she did not see wartime combat; afterward she supported the occupation of Japan, with her aircraft flying antimine patrols and covering landings at Matsuyama and Nagoya. She subsequently carried returning servicemen and surplus aircraft during Operation Magic Carpet. Puget Sound was decommissioned on 18 October 1946, later reclassified CVHE-113 and AKV-13, struck from the Navy List in 1960, and sold for scrap in 1962.
