Historical Information

The Unryu class was developed as a wartime production carrier design derived largely from Hiryu, with simplified construction intended to expand Japan's carrier force rapidly. Only a few ships reached commissioned status before the war ended, and shortages of aircraft, trained aircrews, fuel, and time sharply limited their operational use.
