Historical Information

The USS America (CVA/CV-66) was a Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carrier built by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Commissioned on January 23, 1965, she served primarily with the Atlantic Fleet and Sixth Fleet.

America completed three Vietnam War combat deployments and later supported U.S. operations in the Mediterranean and Middle East. Her service included Operation El Dorado Canyon, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Deny Flight, and humanitarian operations connected with Somalia.
