This 1-3000 scale waterslide decal reproduces the deck markings for the CV-62 Independence during that period of time. Customers report that most decals fit Davco ship castings fairly well. Apply over a properly prepared and gloss-coated model surface using normal waterslide-decal techniques.
Historical Information
The USS Independence (CVA/CV-62) was the fourth and final ship of the Forrestal class, built by the New York Naval Shipyard. Commissioned on January 10, 1959, she initially served with the Atlantic Fleet before later transferring to the Pacific.
Independence supported the Cuban Missile Crisis, completed a Vietnam War combat deployment in 1965, and operated during crises in Lebanon and Grenada. She later supported Operation Desert Shield, became the Navy’s forward-deployed carrier at Yokosuka, Japan, and conducted operations in support of stability in the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf.
